Press Statement: NIN Database Exceeds 51 Million Records, as FG Extends NIN-SIM Linkage by One Month

The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, FNCS, FBCS, FIIM, chaired the meeting of the Ministerial Task Force on the NIN-SIM data linkage.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the EVC/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), DG/CEO of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), DG/CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Representative of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON).

The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has emphasised that the Commission will always be open to ideas, innovations and meaningful collaboration with strategic institutions for the development of human capacity in Nigeria.
Danbatta stated this while addressing the management of Nile University of Nigeria, when they paid a courtesy visit to the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja recently.

Two directors of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Bako Wakil and Oluwatoyin Asaju have been conferred with the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (FNIEEE).
Wakil is the Director, Technical Standards and Network Integrity, while Asaju is the current Director, Spectrum Administration Department at the Commission.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has congratulated Mohammed Babajika, Director, Licensing and Authorisation Department of the Commission on his recognition by the League of African Development Students (LEADS) as ‘’Africa’s Patriotic Personality.’’
According to LEADS Africa, Babajika was considered worthy of the award “for his outstanding contribution to Africa’s development and meritorious service to God, humanity and our dear country Nigeria, especially through various national and international assignments in the private/public service and community development.”

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has said the Commission will finalise work on electronic waste (e-waste) regulations as soon as it concludes consultations with relevant stakeholders on the draft regulation.
Danbatta stated this while addressing a world Press Conference organized by the Commission in commemoration of the 2021 World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) held virtually in Abuja on Monday, March 15, 2021, during which he also unveiled a Telecoms Consumer Handbook.
